COMMENCEMENT DAY AT CONWAY HALL

Class of Twenty-nine Young Men Graduated from Famous School

Carlisle, June 3.—With the class day this afternoon and the graduation this evening, the annual commencement exercises of Conway Hall, the preparatory school of Dickinson College, came to a close. The class day exercises this afternoon were held at 2 o’clock in the chapel and there was a very large attendance. The platform and the room was very prettily decorated with the school colors, red and white, and the class colors, brown and gold. The motto of the class, “Dum Vivimus, Vivamus,” occupied a conspicuous place. Howard L. Woodmansee, of Lansdale, president of the class, presided.

The announcement of the prizes was made at the commencement exercises and the awards were as follows:

J. O. Humbert, of Carlisle, won the valedictory or the Dare prize, which is $20 in gold. This prize is awarded for excellence in scholarship.

Three prizes were awarded for declamations. The first, a gold medal was won by George C. Peake, of the Carlisle Indian School, whose home is at White Earth, Minn. The second prise{sic}, $8 in cash, was awarded to Murray H. Spahr, Jr., of Mechanicsburg, and the third, $5 in cash, to Arthur M. McClain, of Columbia.

The prize of $20 offered by President Reed, of the college, for the inter-society debate, was won by the Reed Literary Society.
