THE WHO'S WHO OF OUR ALUMNI

This is Waterville's volume of Who's Who or a biographical dictionary of notable men and women of the Waterville Alumni, perhaps not so notable in the "eyes of the world" but in our estimation deserving of special mention.

The standards of admission to Who's Who in the Waterville Alumni divide into two classes ; (1) Those who are selected on account of special prominence in creditable lines of effort, making them the subject of extensive interest, inquiry, or discussion by this school; (2) and those who are arbitrarily included on account of official position—Civil, Military, Naval or Educational.

The first of these two classes comprises persons who have accomplished some conspicuous achievement, something out of the ordinary, so to speak, something which distinguishes them from the vast majority of their contemporaries. Members of the Waterville Alumni that fall in this line are: Adolph Dehn, Anna Dickie Olson, Vera Giles, Ethel Alexander, Grace Fahning and a few other notables. Adolph Doha has become a modernistic painter in Austria. Anna Dickie Olson has taken an active part in Democratic politics. Vera Giles has acquired a position as an accompanist of Leopold Auer, famous violin instructor in New York City, which gives her a great deal of notability. She has studied in London, England, in preparation for her work. Ethel Alexander has also taken an active part in music, having studied in Europe. Grace Fahning is engaged in teaching French in a large school in Newark, New Jersey, and has spent a year at Columbia University and the University of Paris.

The second class, as we have said, comprises persons active in military, naval, educational and professional work. Among these are: Carlton Huebl, who is auditor of Le Sueur county; Roland Huebl, who is engaged in naval service; Mae Luther, Paul Schultz, Bertha Zollner, and Janet Gish. The last two have been in the teaching profession in our own school for the past three years. Some of our younger graduates are: Royal Petersen, Roy Clark, Maynard Graham, Monica Haley, Genevieve Slattery, Ruth Buck, Mary Feany, and Percival Feany. These people have been successful in their line of work.

Those who have successful occupations, in the business world are : John Callahan. Ernest Lynn, Carl Bliss, William Luther, Ralph Worlein and Schuyler Gish. Some of the younger graduates of this section are: Irene Broughton, Irene Van Fleet, Rosina Frodl, Helen Antl, Laura Dusbabek, Loretta Sheehy, Paul Zollner and Maurice Penfield.

The High School regrets most sincerely that Adra Chambers, a member of the Class of '28, was called before she had a chance to show her ability.

Let it again be stated that the Who's Who of our Alumni aims to give brief, crisp, sketches of our most notable men and women, whose achievements make them of general interest. Almost all of our Alumni, we are glad to say, have at least been ambitious enough to work with the greatest of their ability.
