Commencement Exercises at Local High School

Doubt the Legality of School Appropriation

Young Man Arrested on Charge of Stealing Cigars.

The commencement exercised of the Mansfield high school were held in Town Hall last evening. The hall was prettily decorated with potted plants and the class colors, gold and white. Above the platform was the class motto, "Deeds, Not Words."

The programme was as follows;

Prayer, Rev. W. T. Johnson; salutatory and essay, "The Johnsonian Club," Mary A. White, reading "The First Settler's Story," Lillian A. Flavin, mandolin solo, Beatrice W. Hallett, essay, "Mansfield in 2006," Albert V. Wilson, essay, "Mardi Gras," Nellie M. Mason, piano duet, Mabel F. Corey, and Grace E. Appleby, class history, Herbert H. Robinson, original story, Hazel B. Waterman, vocal solo, Nellie F. Bayley, class statistics, Howard L. Weit, witches' prophecy, Huldah D. Wellington, Olive G. Stockdale and Jessie A. Johnson, essay "Ruskin's Ideas of a Girl's Education," Theresa E. McLaughlin, reading "Our Duty to the Republic," Clifford E. Guild, vocal solo, Helen M. Wheeler; essay, "What Will Be the Next Crisis in the United States?" George L. Hewitt, reading "Doom of Claudius and Cynthia," Marion A. Davis, class will, Kenneth C. Sherman, contralto solo, Grace H. Crane, essay with valedictory, "About Studia in Mores," Mary J. Corbett, class ode, composed by Lillian A. Flavin.

Diplomas were presented by Supt. E. P. Fitts to these graduates:

Classical course; Mabel Frances Corey and Grace Hamilton Crane.

General course; Grace Estelle Appleby, Mary Jane Corbett,
Marion Augusta Davis, George Lester Hewitt, sec. Jesse Abbott Johnson, Nellie Maude Mason, Theresa Emeline McLaughlin, Huldah Dixon Wellington, Helen Madeline Wheeler, Mary Adeline White, Joseph A. Conner and Leon L. Burt.

Scientific course:
Nellie Frances Bayley, Lillian Agnes Flavin, vice-president, Clifford Elisha Guild, Beatrice Webster Hallett, Herbert Earle Robinson, president, Olive Guild Stockdale, Kenneth Corey Sherman, Hazel Beatrice Waterman, Howard Lorenso Welt and Albert Vernon Wilson.

After the exercises a class hour was held and the class cake cut. Friday evening the graduates will hold a reception in Town Hall.
